Hi Steve
Well I think yours is similar, and reminds me of many beads of this sort of furnace-wound glass with the black residue made recently of bubbly rough glass, translucent but not transparent, in Turkey or possibly recently in "the Holy Land".
The shininess and the fragility dont suggest old to me.
